- W1985655268 abstract "Magnetostriction and magnetisation measurements are made on a polycrystalline sample of the cubic Laves phase compound CeFe2 in pulsed magnetic fields up to 18 T and over the temperature range 5 to 300 K. A sharp increase in magnetostriction is observed at fields of about 3 T and at temperatures below 150 K. The magnitude of the first-order change in strain increases with decreasing temperature and at 5 K it amounts to approximately 150 × 10−6 which is a 200% increase in the parallel magnetostriction. The critical field for the transition decreases slowly with decreasing temperature. The corresponding change in magnetisation is of the order of 8% at 5 K. It is proposed that this transition corresponds to a first-order rotation of the magnetisation vector due to a particular combination of anisotropy constants. In particular, the effect of the eighth-order constant K3 which also leads to a non-symmetry easy direction above 150 K, is likely to be important. Des mesures de magnétostriction et d'aimantation ont été effectuées sur un échantillon polycristallin du composé phase Laves cubique CeFe2 dans des champs magnétiques pulsés jusqu à 18 T et dans la gamme de température de 5 à des 300 K. On observe une augmentation très nette de magnétostriction dans des champs de 3 T à peu près et à des températures de moins de 150 K. L,ampleur du changement de premier ordre dans la tension augmente avec une décroissance de température et à 5 K elle égale approximativement 150 × 10−6, ce qui représente un accroissement de 200% dans la magnétostriction parallèle. Le champs critique de transition décroit lentement avec la température. Le changement correspondant dans l'aimantation est de l'odre de 8% à 5 K. Nous en concluons que cette transition correspond à une rotation de premier ordre du vector d'aimantation, due à une combinaison particulièere de constantes d'anisotropie. En particulier, l'effet de la constant de huitième ordre K 3 qui conduit lui aussi à une direction facile de nonsymmétrie au-dessus de 150 K, est sans doute important." @default.
