The map plots normalized grain size as a function of the reciprocal of the homologous temperature, for temperatures from 0.4 Tm to Tm, where Tm is the melting point of the material in degrees Kelvin. It is demonstrated that the boundaries separating the various fields in grain size-temperature space are straight lines. A simple procedure is presented for constructing maps of this type, and for inserting constant strain rate contours. For mechanisms having the same dependence on stress, such as Newtonian viscous processes, it is shown that these maps are independent of the selected stress level." @default.
