- W1986627076 abstract "The electrochemical behaviour of 1,2-dithiole-3-thiones in water + ethanol media was investigated at the mercury electrode. The nature of the reduction products depends on the concentration. When the cathodic current is adsorption-controlled (c = 0.02 mM), the reduction product is an organomercurial. When the cathodic current is essentially diffusion-controlled (c = 0.5 mM), a 2 e− -reduction reversible process occurs according to the overall reaction at pH 7.0. EO' depends on the nuture of R4 (H, CH3) and R5 (C6H5, CH3), E0' = −440 mV vs. SHE when R4 = H and R3 = C6H5. The reversibility of the first 2 e−-reduction path is confirmed by controlled potential electrolysis. From the UV-visible spectra, it can be deduced that the 2e− -reduction products generated on the mercury pool exist either in cyclic (R4 = H) or in opened forms (R4 = CH3). Electrochcmical desulfuration occurs in alkaline media in the course of the second 4e− -reduction path. The 6e− -reduction products C6H5-CH2-CH(R4)-CS2H were isolated as potassium salts and their structures were established by NMR spectroscopy." @default.
