- W1987014503 abstract "Abstract ENTEROKINASE was discovered in 1899 by Scepovalnikov, in Pavlov’s laboratory (cited by Yamashina, 1954), and Pavlov (1910) termed it a kinase or “a ferment of ferments.” Savitsh, also in Pavlov’s laboratory (Pavlov, 1910) showed that pancreatic juice (but not when boiled) served as a specific stimulus to the intestinal mucosa to secrete enterokinase in intestinal juice (succus entericus). Without this pancreatic stimulus, enterokinase disappeared from intestinal juice. Pavlov (1910) summarized the information at that time: “. . . this peculiar physiological reaction to the ferments of the pancreatic juice (whether to one only, or to all of them, remains an open question) is extraordinarily sensitive.” Foa (cited by Alexander and Chowdhury, 1958) showed that enterokinase disappeared within six months from intestinal juice obtained from fistulae of a dog. Enterokinase also disappeared almost completely from the ileal juice of the horse (Alexander and Chowdhury, 1958). Yamashina (1954) extracted and subsequently concentrated. . ." @default.
