- W1987016166 abstract "The intravenous johnin PPD test for the diagnosis of Mycobacterium johnei infection of cattle was revalued. An increase in rectal temperature and a change in the lymphocyte: neutrophil ratio were used as criteria of infection. Similar but smaller changes were observed following single and repeated intradermal injections of johnin PPD. The time sequence of these hypersensitive-induced fevers and the related haematological changes differed from those following E. coli endotoxin administration to healthy cattle. Slight changes in plasma composition occurred during the onset of both types of fever. In endotoxin fever plasma potassium concentrations fell, but in hypersensitive-induced fever they rose. Plasma β-glucuronidase activity was increased in endotoxin fever, but not in PPD-induced hypersensitive fever. The response mechanism is briefly discussed." @default.
