- W1987444902 abstract "Abstract The metabolic energy requirements for platelet adherence to collagen have been investigated. Inhibitors of aerobic metabolism had no effect whereas inhibitors of anaerobic metabolism reduced adherence to 83% to 92% of control values. A combination of the two inhibitors reduced adherence to 58 to 69% of control values and a similar reduction occurred at 4°C and 24 hours after blood collection. It is concluded that platelet adherence to collagen is, in part, energy dependent, that anaerobic glycolysis alone can provide the necessary energy requirements, and that oxidative phosphorylation alone can provide only part of them. The observation that platelet adherence is only partially dependent on metabolic energy is consistent with the presence of more than one platelet membrane binding site for collagen." @default.
