• W1987693558 abstract "Abstract In previous work it was shown that quenching molybdenum after high temperature annealing in a nitrogen atmosphere could retain nitrogen in a supersaturated solid solution. The present paper is the first of two describing a study of the behaviour of the nitrogen on ageing. In this first paper emphasis has been placed on studying the ageing up to 300°C using resistivity and stress relaxation techniques. The results show that after ageing up to 250°C all the nitrogen is removed from solution. Most of this removal takes place in two well defined resistivity stages and evidence is presented that these stages are due to single and dinitrogen removal respectively. Although both stages obey first order kinetics there are some complicating features in the recovery behaviour. For example, the measured activation energy for stage A , attributed to single nitrogen migration, varies between 0.93 eV and 1.19 eV depending on nitrogen concentration while there is an associated change in the position of the peak during isochronal annealing. Also the appearance of a third resistivity stage at high nitrogen contents together with the results of the anelastic behaviour show that although the general picture is clear the details of the precipitation processes may be complex." @default.
