- W1987788266 abstract "SUMMARY Naturally passively immune, artificially passively immune, and susceptible chicks were vaccinated subcutaneously at 2 days old with 0.5 ml of inactivated Newcastle disease (ND) vaccines prepared in a manner not previously described. The vaccines were prepared with beta-propiolactone-inactivated ND-virus-infected amnioallantoic fluid (AAF) precipitated with alum [AlK(S04)2: 12H20], resuspended in the supernatant fluid, and then conjugated with sodium hydroxide. The response of chicks having three levels of passive immunity when vaccinated with ND virus in aluminum hydroxide gel was superior to that of similar chicks vaccinated with antigens adsorbed to preformed aluminum hydroxide gel. These alum-treated vaccines provoked a physical reaction lasting for 3-5 seconds which was not associated with any disability or mortality. The survival pattern of unvaccinated passively immune controls was an effective aid in determining the actual passive antibody level in these chicks." @default.
