- W1988227643 abstract "Abstract Spherical particles, about 85 nm in diameter, were observed in the cytoplasm of Datura stramonium leaf cells infected with tomato spotted wilt virus (TSWV), but not in cells of healthy plants. It is concluded that these particles are the virus particles. Two additional cytoplasmic inclusions were also associated with TSWV infection; patches of densely staining granular material and bundles of long filaments. All the inclusions associated with infection were confined to the cytoplasm. TSWV particles were observed in cells of the leaf epidermis, stomata, and mesophyll as well as in tracheids, sieve tubes, and phloem parenchyma of leaf veins. They were often observed scattered among the chromosomes of leaf cells whose nuclear membrane had broken down during mitosis. Distribution of TSWV in the cells and tissues of D. stramonium leaves is discussed in relation to the possible ways in which the virus spreads throughout the infected plant." @default.
