• W1988277153 abstract "Abstract In the selection of a suitable control scheme and associated controller parameters, the designer must decide what can be considered as an acceptable closed loop plant response. When the plant parameters are liable to vary, the designer is faced with the question of whether the closed loop system will remain stable, and if so, whether the perturbed closed loop dynamics will continue to resemble the nominal response. From the point of view of robust plant performance subject to parameter variations, it is desirable that the closed loop transfer function poles remain constrained within certain closed regions surrounding their nominal locations. A proper selection of these regions guarantees that the perturbed system dynamics remain close to (and so resembles) the nominal. A method that can be used to find the allowable range of parameter variations satisfying the above mentioned pole position constraints is presented. The analysis is based on transfer function characteristic polynomials, corresponding to either continuous or discrete time systems. The applicability of the method is independent of the type of controller or the control structure. A feasible region is initially found in the polynomial coefficient space through analytical considerations. Then, a mapping onto the plant parameter space would allow the determination of tolerable parameter variations.
