- W1990201732 abstract "This contribution supplements the taxonomic and biogeographic knowledge of West Palaearctic species of the paederine subtribe Scopaeina Mulsant & Rey, 1878. Species descriptions and taxonomic changes concern the speciose East Mediterranean – Middle Eastern S. elegans species group. Scopaeus alborzensis sp. n. (Iran), S. anlasi sp. n. (Turkey), S. assingi sp. n. (Turkey), S. borumandi sp. n. (Iran), S. kermanensis sp. n. (Iran), and S. ulughdaghensis sp. n. (Iran) are described and compared to related species. Scopaeus armeniacus Coiffait, 1968 and S. illyricus Frisch, 1997 are synonymized with S. cameroni Coiffait, 1968. Scopaeus heinzi Korge, 1971 is revalidated from synonymy with S. bilaminulatus Scheerpeltz, 1957. The diagnostic characters of the Middle Eastern species of the S. laevigatus species group [S. azerbaidzhanus Gusarov, S. ebneri Scheerpeltz, S. laevigatus (Gyllenhal)] are reconsidered owing to the significant clinal variability of the aedeagus and the abdominal sternite VIII of the males of S. ebneri. Male and – if available – female diagnostic characters are illustrated for the above species as well as for S. kurdistanicoides Frisch, S. kurdistanus Korge, and S. serriae Frisch. Biogeographic data are presented and discussed for Micranops pilicornis (Baudi) and 44 species of Scopaeus. New country records are published for Albania (S. cameroni), Armenia (S. cameroni), Bulgaria (S. ryei), Greece (S. gladifer), Iran (M. pilicornis, S. cameroni, S. mariae, S. minimus), Iraq (S. filiformis), Jordan (S. debilis), Kyrgyzstan (S. debilis), Moldavia (S. debilis, S. minutus), Oman (S. filiformis), Slovenia (S. ryei), and Syria (S. kurdistanus, S. schillhammeri). Records for Central African Republic (S. minimus), “East Africa” (S. minimus), Ethiopia (S. laevigatus), Hungary (M. pilicornis), Iran (S. alaniensis Coiffait, S. laevigatus, S. minutoides), Oman (S. debilis), Saudi Arabia (S. debilis), Sudan (S. minimus), and Ukraine (S. cameroni) are implausible and rejected. The distribution is mapped for the S. elegans species group (S. bilaminulatus, S. cameroni, and S. femursetosus subgroups, S. mariae, S. persicus), S. chalcodactylus, S. farsensis, and the Middle Eastern species of the S. laevigatus species group. The phylogeography of the S. elegans species group is discussed. (© 2010 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)" @default.
