- W1990283218 abstract "The neuroleptics haloperidol and chlorpromazine and the α-receptor blocking agent phenoxybenzamine but not the β-receptor blocking agent H 56/28 blocked the dihydroxyphenylalanine-induced increase of the hind limb flexor reflex in acutely spinalized rats without interfering with the formation of dopamine and noradrenaline. It is therefore probable that haloperidol, chlorpromazine and phenoxybenzamine block the noradrenaline receptors in the spinal cord. These drugs but not H 56/28 accelerated the α-methyltyrosine-induced depletion of noradrenaline throughout the intact rat spinal cord but only cranial to the lesion in transected cords. This finding indicates that these drugs increase the nerve impulse flow from the cell bodies of the bulpospinal noradrenaline neurons. It is suggested that noradrenaline receptor blockade in the spinal cord produces an increased activity in the noradrenaline neurons to the spinal cord by a feedback mechanism via the cell bodies in the medulla oblongata." @default.
