- W1990684080 abstract "The EEG and behavioral responses elicited by stimulating the septal nuclei were studied during a kindling procedure and compared with those elicited by amygdala stimulation. The main point of interest concerned the elicitation of wet dog shakes (WDS). Stimulation of the septum evoked a large number of WDS which were closely related to seizure activity in this region. Stimulation just below the after-discharge (AD) threshold evoked no or only a few WDS. Although a few WDS occurred just after the stimulation, most WDS came at the end of the ADs. Of particular interest was the finding that the WDS were markedly reduced as the AD durations increased and kindling progressed. Another example of incompatibility between the development of convulsive seizure and the maintenance of a high incidence of WDS is described, and the results are compared with other models eliciting WDS and epileptiform activity. In conclusion, it is suggested that WDS provide a behavioral index of possible inhibitory processes associated with paroxysmal activity." @default.
