- W199117213 abstract "The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) initiated and co-sponsored a series of flow measurement comparison tests at three different sites in the USA and Canada. The primary objective of the comparative testing was to provide verification of the technical performance of the acoustic flowmeter system as compared to other systems of flow measurement which are currently code accepted. A secondary objective was to provide substantive test results which will be made available to the respective committees of the national and international organizations concerned with testing procedures for their consideration in adopting the acoustic flowmeter system as a code accepted system. The comparison tests were carried out as turbine and/or pump performance tests. Individual site reports were issued which contain the results and details of the test procedures and methods used at each of the sites. This report attempts to summarize and analyze the data collected at the three test sites. The report concludes that the acoustic methods results are as reliable as those of any of the code approved methods used and that the systematic uncertainties of the acoustic method are estimated to be +-1% to +-2%. The conclusion is also drawn that the values of the systematic uncertainties asmore » published in the various codes for the code approved methods used are realistic. The report recommends that the acoustic systems as implemented by Westinghouse's Leading Edge flowmeter and Ferranti O.R.E.'s Accusonic Flowmeter be included in the aforementioned codes and that, due to the lack of the reliable comparison data between flow measurement methods, EPRI encourages and assists utilities to use more than one method of flow measurement during acceptance tests.
