- W1991382849 abstract "Bone is the most frequently transplanted tissue in humans with the exception of blood,‘,2 and it has been employed in clinical practice for many years in the treatment of non-unions and delayed unions, arthrodeses, filling of bone cavities, replacement of bone defects and augmentation of skeletal deficiency.2-4 Transplantation of allogeneic tendons, cruciate ligaments and cartilage has been studied in laboratory animals. In contrast to transplantation of bone, tendons and ligaments, cartilage allografts are most successful when the chondrocytes of the graft survive;5 storage of living cartilage will not be discussed in this review. In any transplantation of tissue from one human to another there is a risk of coincident transmission of infectious diseases with the graft. Rhesus immunization following bone transplantation has been described.0 Transmission of cancer is a theoretical risk in transplantation of bone, although no cases have been published to our knowledge." @default.
