- W1991489430 abstract "The incidence of lymphoid cells which react in vitro with 125I-labeled hemocyanin (Jasus lalandii) has been investigated using cells from normal rats and rats made tolerant to HCY by a neonatal course of injections. The absence of humoral or cellular responses to HCY in the tolerant rats was established by their failure to: 1) produce serum anti-HCY antibody, 2) localise 125I-HCY in the follicles of the popliteal lymph node, or 3) produce immediate or delayed skin reactions to HCY. HCY-tolerant rats were found to possess as many HCY-binding cells in in their spleens and thoracic duct lymph as did normal rats, and the reaction of these cells with 125I-HCY was inhibited to the same extent (91–98%) by rabbit anti-rat globulin serum as were cells from normal rats. Moreover, tolerant rats could not be distinguished from normal rats when the incidence of any one category of HCY-binding spleen cells (classified according to grain count and cell diameter) was compared at frequencies between 10−5 and 10−2. No significant increase in HCY-binding cells was observed in either control or tolerant rats following challenge with either of two immunogenic preparations of HCY. The limitations of the antigen-binding cell assay and the possible significance of these findings have been discussed." @default.
