- W1991518902 abstract "This study concerns variations, during epileptic seizures, of presynaptic inhibition, as indicated by the dorsal root potential (DRP). 1. Metrazol administration causes a series of “spontaneous” DRPs in addition to the classical electrocortical paroxysm. These DRPs appear and disappear synchronously with the electrocortical phenomena due to Metrazol and are abolished by spinal section at C1, showing that they are of supraspinal origin. 2. When the paroxysmal effects of Metrazol are over, segmental, heterosegmental, heterosensory and cortical stimuli all produce specific modifications of the DRP. Briefly, there is a reduction in segmental phenomena but a large increase in those of heterosegmental, heterosensory and cortical origins. 3. Spinal section at C1 confirms that Metrazol has a dual effect on the presynaptic control of transmission in afferent pathways; presynaptic inhibition of local origin is depressed while that of central origin is augmented. 4. The above series of effects is also found during epileptic seizures induced by means other than Metrazol administration. 5. The origin of heterosegmental DRPs is discussed in the light of the present findings and previously published results. A mechanism for Metrazol action is proposed involving a possible duality, functional or structural, in the mechanisms generating peripheral and central presynaptic inhibition. Cette étude concerne les variations de l'inhibition présynaptique objectivée par le potentiel radiculaire dorsal (PRD) au cours de la crise d'épilepsie. 1. L'administration de Metrazol induit, outre la classique crise électrocorticale, une série de PRD “spontanés”. Ceux-ci apparaissent et disparaissent en même temps que les manifestations électrocorticales de l'action du Metrazol et ne sont plus retrouvés aprés section en C1. Ceci montre leur origine supraspinale. 2. Aprés les effets paroxystiques du Metrazol, la stimulation segmentaire, hétérosegmentaire, hétérosensorielle et corticale montre des modifications spécifiques qui consistent essentiellement en une réduction des phénomènes segmentaires et un accroissement important des phénomènes d'origine hétérosegmentaire, hétérosensorielle et corticale. 3. La section spinale en C1 confirme la dualité des effets du Metrazol sur le contrôle présynaptique de la transmission de la volée afférente: l'inhibition présynaptique d'origine locale est déprimée alors que celle d'origine centrale est exacerbée. 4. L'ensemble de ces résultats s'observe au cours de la crise d'épilepsie induite, non seulement par le Metrazol, mais aussi par d'autres procédés. 5. L'origine des PRD hétérosegmentaires et hétérosensoriels est discutée à la lumière de ces données et de celles de la littérature. Ces considérations nous aménent à envisager le mécanisme d'action du Metrazol et à poser le problème d'une dualité structurale ou fonctionelle dans les mécanismes générateurs d'inhibition présynaptique d'origine périphérique et centrale." @default.
