- W1991583896 abstract "Adult apterous Myzus persicae were given simple solutions of twelve different sugars. As gauged by' survival and larviposition, melezitose, raffinose, glucose, fructose, galactose, maltose, and trehalose appear to stimulate ingestion and to be utilizable. Sorbose stimulated ingestion but was not utilized. Mannose, sorbitol, xylose, and ribose did not stimulate feeding and were not utilized. Rhamnose, arabinose, lactose, and cellobiose appeared to inhibit fluid uptake. Larval M. persicae were given complete diets with sucrose replaced by or supplemented by different sugars. Only melibiose and raffinose supported growth in the absence of sucrose. In the presence of 1 or 2% sucrose, it was found that diets containing glucose, fructose, galactose, maltose, trehalose, melezitose, and sorbitol were also ingested optimally and well utilized. Sorbose was utilized only poorly; cellobiose and probably also lactose were not utilized. The four pentoses tested and mannose acted as feeding deterrents and their utilizability remained undecided." @default.
