A number of applications are given, including labeling of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids in membranes and nucleic acids. Imrpoved immunolabeling with clusters over colloidal gold probes is discussed as well as the expanded utility of some of these clusters in TEM thin sections. With silver enhancement, the 1.4 nm gold cluster provides one of the most sensitive probes known for use in EM, light and confocal microscopy and in immunblotting." @default.
