- W1991880204 abstract "ABSTRACT The authors investigated the electrical and optical properties of the organic light-emitting-diode (OLED) with a phenylbenzeneamine derivative (MDTPA). The PL and EL of MDTPA thin film were blue. However, the EL of the deviceof mdium-tin-oxide(ITO)IMDTPA/aluminum quinoline(Alq3)/metal was not due to the emission from MDTPA, but wasthe emission from Alq3. It can be explained by that the emission region is formed in A1q3 layer since MDTPA hasexcellent hole transportation. The authors introduced an oxadiazole dimer (OXD) as a carrier blocking layer betweenMDTPA and Alq3 layers in order to form the emission region in MDTPA layer. This multi-layer OLED was found to havea high performance for a blue-light-emitting EL device. Its luminance was over 3000 cdlm2 at the current density of 100mA/cm2. The EL threshold ioltage was about 5 V. Their EL efficiency was about 2 lm/W.Keywords: Organic LED, Blue emitting, Multi-layer, Hole blocking 1. INTRODUCTION In 1987, organic-light-emitting-diode (OLED) which consists of a carrier transport material and an organic fluorescentdye has been reported by Tang and Vanslyke. 2. It had high luminance, high EL efficiency and low driving voltage. Ithad also the advantage of easy selectivity of EL color (blue, green, and red) by choosing dyes with desirable fluorescence.Although the preparation of inorganic blue LED needed to precisely control the growth of semiconductor crystal, theblue OLED also can be prepared by a simple vacuum deposition method. Adachi et al. reported the blue-emitting OLEDwith an anthracene thin film.3 However, this half-decay-time ofthe luminance (lifetime) ofthe OLED was too short to usepractically due to the unstable morphology of an anthracene. When a material has the high glass-transition point (Tg), itsmolecular motion is suppressed and then prevent its film from polycrystallizing. Thus, the Tg of materials must be high inorder to fabricate the long-lifetime OLED. Hamada et al. reported the blue-emitting OLED with an oxadiazole derivatives.4Hosokawa et al. reported the blue OLEDs with distyrylarylene derivatives with a twisted structure.5The authors fabricated the blue-emitting OLED with a phenylbenzene-amine derivative (MDTPA). In this paper, theauthors discussed the PL and EL properties. Since a MDTPA molecule had an unsymmetrical structure, it is consideredthat MDTPA molecules form an film structurte which has a stable morphology." @default.
