- W1992111505 abstract "The case study of a woman with hyperlipidemia and xanthomatosis in whom myelomatosis subsequently developed is reported. This is the first instance in which both the xanthomatosis and hyperlipidemia were found to be familial. Both the myeloma and hyperlipidemia were extensively characterized and possible relationships between the two abnormalities were investigated. The myeloma was classic in virtually every regard and the paraprotein was a gammatype L. The hyperlipidemia, in addition to being familial, was aggravated by carbohydrate intake. No association between the paraprotein and the serum lipoproteins was demonstrable. Evidence is presented to indicate that some unique factor in the patient's serum was capable of inducing alterations in the serum proteins and lipoproteins of normal serum; the pertinence of this property of her serum as well as the relations of myeloma and plasma cells to xanthoma formation are discussed." @default.
