- W1992477462 abstract "Abstract Background Remineralization is the natural repair process for carious lesions. We have knowledge about remineralization for a hundred years. However, it is only in recent decades that the therapeutic importance of remineralization has been generally accepted. But when the bacterial challenge is high or the salivary components are lacking, remineralization is insufficient to halt or reverse the caries process. So, there is a need to find ways to enhance the remineralization process and to transfer such knowledge into clinical therapy. Aims The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the remineralization of demineralized human enamel surfaces by using casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate paste (CCP-ACP) and compared it with acidulated fluoride gel (AFG). Materials and methods Thirty extracted premolars were randomly divided into three groups: Tooth mousse group, fluoride gel group and control group. All groups were subjected to demineralization process. A Vicker hardness number (VHN) was measured for baseline measurements. All groups were subjected to pH cycling model and VHN was measured again to compare them with the initial measurements. Statistical analysis and results After treatment protocol; the tooth mousse group, showed a statistically significant increase in mean microhardness after pH cycling. While in the fluoride and control groups, there was no statistically significant change in mean microhardness after pH cycling. Conclusions Tooth mousse increases the resistance of demineralized enamel surface. Tooth mousse is more effective in remineralization when compare with AFG." @default.
