- W1992496682 abstract "The methods of Zdanovskii-Stokes-Robinson (ZSR), Reilly-Wood-Robinson (RWR), Pitzer and Correa, to determine water activity in ternary solutions of electrolytes from data for water activity in binary solutions, were analysed. In addition, the first two methods were used to estimate the activity of water in supersaturated binary solutions using data from ternary solutions. Also, the equation of Correa for binary solutions was extrapolated to calculate the activity of water at supersaturation. The methods were tested using the experimental data (at 25°C) for nine ternary systems, with a common ion, involving the following ions: Li+, Na+, K+, Ca++, Mg++, Cl− and NO3−. Zdanovskii's method gave the best estimations of water activity in ternary systems. The method of Correa gave smaller standard deviations than the methods of Pitzer and RWR with the advantage that its application is simpler. For binary solutions at supersaturation, Correa's method gave better results than the method of ZSR and this, in turn, yielded smaller deviations than the RWR method. On a examiné les méthodes de Zdanovskii-Stokes-Robinson (ZSR), de Reilly-Wood-Robinson (RWR) et de Pitzer et Correa, pour déterminer l'activité de l'eau dans des solutions ternaires d'électrolytes à partir de données sur l'activité de l'eau dans des solutions binaires. On a par ailleurs utilisé les deux premières méthodes pour estimer l'activité de l'eau dans des solutions binaires sursaturées à l'aide de données provenant de solutions ternaires. L'équation de Correa pour des solutions binaires a également été extrapolée afin de calculer l'activité de l'eau à la sursaturation. Ces méthodes ont été testées à l'aide de données expérimentales (à 25°C) pour neuf systèmes ternaires, avec un ion commun, impliquant les ions suivants: Li+, Na+, K, Ca++, Mg++, CI− et NO3−. C'est la méthode de Zdanovskii qui a donné les meilleures estimations sur l'activité de l'eau dans les systèmes ternaires. La méthode de Correa a donné des écarts types plus petits que la méthode de Pitzer et celle de RWR et a en outre l'avantage d'ětre plus simple d'application. Pour les solutions binaires à sursaturation, la méthode de Correa fournit de meilleurs résultats que la méthode de ZSR, ce qui, en retour, permet d'obtenir des écarts types plus petits qu'avec la méthode de RWR." @default.
