- W1993168228 abstract "A total of 718 isolates were made from 102 retail broilers, collected in the Pretoria area. By conventional identification techniques and serology 158 isolates could be identified as potential human pathogens. Salmonella (136 isolates) contributed the largest percentage (86%). The other pathogens were represented by Aeromonas hydrophila, Campylobacter jejuni, Shigella spp. and Yersinia enterocolitica. The high incidence of salmonellae on the carcasses sampled corresponds well with reports by others, and emphasizes the common association of this potential human pathogen with poultry. Incidence figures on the sampled broilers for Salmonella, Aeromonas, Shigella, Campylobacter and Yersinia were 49, 6, 5, 4 and 3%, respectively." @default.
