- W1993740211 abstract "Six candidate compounds, Abate® (O,O-dimethyl phosphorothioate O,O-diester with 4,4′-thiodiphenol), BASF 1-155 (1,2,3,4,9,9-hexachloro-1,4,4a,5,6,7,8,8a-octahydro-1,4 Methanonaphthalene), Bay 62863 (2,3-dihydro-2-methyl-7-benzofuranyl methylcarbamate, Geigy GS-12968 (O,O-dimethyl phosphorodithioate S-ester with 2-ethoxy-4-(mercapotomethyl)-∆2-1,3,4-thiadiazolin-5-one), Mobam® (bema [b] thien-4-yl methylcarbamate), and Shell SD-8530 (3,4,5-trimcthylphenyl mcthylcarbamte), in louse powders were evaluated against DDT-resistant body lice, Pediculus hu manus humanus 1., compared with malathion. The tests the were conducted at the Naval Medical Field Research Laboratory, Camp Lejeune, N. C., during November-December 1968 and January-February 1969, with U. S. Marine volunteers, who Wore sleeves treated with the powders- about 40 hours per week for 6-7 weeks while in training, After 4 days wear each week, body lice were exposed to the treated sleeves in the laboratory. Powders containing 2% Abate and 5% Mobam were 100% effective for 6 weeks, whereas 1% Bay 62863 and 2% Geigy 12968 were 100% effective for 5 weeks. The Abate, Mobam, and Bay 62863 were powders were significantly more effective than the 2% Geigy GS-12968, but the latter was more effective than the malathion standard. The 1% Bay 62863 powder was significantly more effective than the 1% BASII-155, 1% Shell SD-8530, and malathion." @default.
