- W1993844384 abstract "This book will be invaluable to anyone who is interested in understanding the physics of thermoluminescence (TL). Intended for use by TL dosimetrists, research workers and students, it includes information on glow curves, emission spectra, the mechanisms of TL production, trapping parameters associated with TL signals as well as a lot of information about the dosimetric properties of many materials when exposed to low LET radiation. TL dosimetry is often used by workers who do not have much knowledge of the underlying physical mechanisms causing emission. For those who only wish to use TL dosimetry as a means of measuring radiation dose and are content to remain uninformed about crystal lattice structures, vacancy and impurity centres and the fundamental characteristics and properties of dosemeters there is no need to purchase this book. But if you are interested in exploring the possibility of using a new TL dosemeter or in understanding the links between solid state physics and the radiation dosimetry properties of any of the principal TL materials in current use - then this very informative book will be a good buy - even though it is not cheap. It includes numerous original conventional glow curves as well as isometric and contour plots of the emission spectra of each of the specimens studied. The `3D' isometric plots of emission intensity against temperature and wavelength provide the reader with a wealth of information in a user friendly format. There are chapters on Thermoluminescence and Thermoluminescent Dosimetry and well-researched chapters on the TL properties of Fluorides, Oxides, Sulphates and Borates. Each chapter has a good list of references. Less commendable features which might irk the specialist reader include the brevity of the index and the use of previously published data in which doses are quoted in R rather than Gy." @default.
