- W1993976552 abstract "The transfer of three cationic polyacrylamides of high, medium, and low molecular weights from cellulose fibers to polystyrene latex particles has been studied in aqueous suspensions. The polyacrylamides had a low level of fluorescent labeling. There is a significant transfer for all these polyacrylamides, although the transfer is slower for the higher molecular weight polymers than for those of lower molecular weight. The influence of the level of hydrodynamic shear on transfer is largest for the high molecular weight polyacrylamide. There is a reduction in transfer if the polymer has been adsorbed for a long time before the transfer is initiated. The molecular weight distributions have been determined by size exclusion chromatography both for the original polymers and for the polymers transferred to the polystyrene particles. These data present clear evidence that cleavage of polymers can take place during transfer. The cleavage is especially great for the high molecular weight polymers when they have been adsorbed for a long time before transfer." @default.
