- W1994440904 abstract "An investigation has been made of gas absorption characteristics in unstable vertical slug flow. The process studied was the absorption of hexane from an inert carrier gas into paraffin oil. Gas-phase properties were varied by use of nitrogen, helium and Freon-14 as carriers, while variation of liquid-phase properties was achieved by using light and heavy paraffin oils and their mixtures. Absorption efficiencies were high, ranging from 0.75 to 0.99 The values depended not only on operating and system variables, but also on absorber geometry with a distinct discontinuity being observed when the overall mass transfer efficiency was plotted against absorber length H. This discontinuity was particularly marked for the heavy paraffin oil and was found to be related to the variation of slug surface area with H. Flow rates and system properties were found to affect the mass transfer coefficients and a comparison of experimental values with those predicted by the penetration theory suggested that not all the slug surface area was effective in mass transfer. On a étudié les caractéristiques d'absorption de gaz dans un écoulement vertical et instable avec bulles; il s'est agi de l'absorption de l'hexane entraǐné par un gaz inerte dans une huile de paraffine. On a fait varicr les propriétés de la phase gazeuse en employant l'azote, l'hélium et le Fréon-14 comme gaz. entraǐneurs, et celles de la phase liquide en utilisant des huiles de paraffine légères et lourdes ainsi que des mélanges de celles-ci. Les rendements en absorption s sont avérés élevés et se sont échelonnés entre 0.75 et 0.99. Les valeurs d'absorption ont dépendu non settlement des variables des opérations et des systèmes, mais aussi de la géométrie de l'absorbeur; on a observé une discontinuité distincte en traçant un graphique on l'abscisse était le rendement global de transfert de masse et l'ordonnée la longueur de l'absorbeur (H). Ladite discontinuité a été particulièrement marquée dans le cas de l'huile de paraffine lourde et l'on a constate qu'elle était reliée à la variation de l'aire de surface des bulles avec H.
