For v a l u e s o f QI s m a l l e r t h a n t h i s t h e use o f e q u a t i o n ( 2 ) was recommended a f t e r smoothi n g and averaging t h e t ime-domain s i g n a l s . 3 . R e s u l t s and D i s c u s s i o n Fig . 4 shows t h a r e s u l t o f measurements o f load-e longa t ion c u r v e a t v a r i o u s t empera tures under s t a t i c load ing i n t h e env i ronmenta l chamber shown i n Fig .2 . The s p r i n g was p e r f e c t l y e l a s t i c a t 80°C. As t h e t empera ture was l o n ~ e r e d , however, i t became n o t p e r f e c t l y e l a s t i c h u t t h e c u r v e s showed h y s t e r e s i s l o o p s .
