- W1994876500 abstract "The prerequisite to the improvement in the diabetes therapy is the possibility for continuous in vivo monitoring of the glucose concentration by means of an implantable sensor with long-term stability. A needle-type electrocatalytic glucose sensor was designed for subcutaneous application, which consists of three electrodes: working electrode (A= 0.2–0.5 mm2) of platinized platinum, a Ag/AgCl reference electrode (O.D. = 0.35 mm), and an auxiliary electrode (PT sheet, d < 0.1 mm). A double-lumen glass tube (l= 20 mm, O.D. = 2 mm) serves as an electrode support. The sensor is covered with a tubular membrane of polyacrylonitrile polymers, which is shrunk onto the electrode support. The behaviour of the sensor has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry and potential step chronoamperometry. The working electrode was reactivated by a series of short potential steps (t=6 s) alternating between +900 mV and −750 mV. The sensor works in an adsorption or reaction-controlled operation mode. At 37° C the sensor shows a response to glucose up to a concentration > 20 mmol 1−1 in phosphate buffered saline containing human serum albumin, amino acids and urea. The sensitivity is 0.15–0.53 μA/mmol 1−1 and the response time is 3.5-5 min. The interference coefficients were evaluated for the influence of amino acids, urea and chloride ions and also the ambient conditions (temperature, pH, pO2) on the glucose determination. The first in vivo measurements show that the sensor responds to changes of the glucose concentration in the tissue." @default.
