- W1994926272 abstract "Abstract 1. 1. The content of 3-hydroxyproline and 4-hydroxyproline in the enamel proteins and in the dentinal and cemental collagens of bovine teeth was determined. The ratio of 4-hydroxyproline to 3-hydroxyproline was utilized to help distinguish whether these imino acids are true components of the enamel proteins or whether they reflect the presence of collagen. In addition, the relative solubility of collagen in trichloroacetic acid and in neutral and acid buffers, and its separation by chromatography were used in an effort to isolate collagen from the enamel proteins. 2. 2. Small quantities of both soluble and insoluble collagen with a ratio of 4-hydroxyproline to 3-hydroxyproline similar to dentinal collagen were isolated. However, fractions of the enamel proteins whose amino acid compositions were distinctly different from that of collagen were obtained, which contained small amounts of hydroxyproline. In several of these samples, the ratio of 4- to 3-hydroxyproline differed markedly from that of dentinal or cemental collagen, indicating that these imino acids were components of the enamel proteins. The ratio of hydroxylysine to hydroxyproline of the enamel proteins and collagen was also compared. These results showed that hydroxylysine was also a constituent of the enamel proteins." @default.
