• W1995134137 abstract "Background In the past studies, indicated depression, anxiety, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) are associated with cancer patients’ longitudinal outcome. We examined long-term relations between depression, anxiety, and quality of life. Methods We included 530 breast cancer patients from three medical centres. All patients completed four questionnaires (QLQ-BR23, QLQ-C30, Beck Depression Inventory II [BDI] and Beck Anxiety Inventory [BAI]) preoperatively, and at 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, and 5 years after surgery. 95% confidence intervals for differences in responsiveness estimates were derived by bootstrap estimation. Scores derived by these instruments were interpreted by generalised estimating equations. Findings Of the examined domains, only future perspective and constipation were not significantly, then significantly associated with improved QLQ-C30, QLQ-BR23, BDI, and BAI subscales at the 6-month follow-up (p < 0.05). After adjustment for time effects and baseline predictors, controlling for patient characteristics, BDI and BAI scores after breast cancer diagnosis were significantly associated with QLQ-BR23 and QLQ-C30 subscales (p < 0.05). Interpretation Depression, anxiety, and HRQoL scores were the worst symptoms after 6 months. Then there were significantly improved symptoms after 1 year. Depression and anxiety were related to QOL after breast cancer diagnosis.
