Various methods of estimating latent heat flux (or evaporation) using remotely sensed data are reviewed. A method is proposed for estimating unstressed transpiration from meteorologic satellite data. Considering theory and field observations it is proposed that under many situations unstressed transpiration can expressed as a product of potential evaporation and fractional vegetation cover. Approaches for estimating potential evaporation and fractional cover from meteorological satellite observations (e.g. by METEOSAT and AVHRR) are discussed." @default.
