- W1995638538 abstract "Abstract To investigate the dielectric properties of a metal–insulator composite close to the percolation threshold, some types of distribution function of the geometrical shapes of inclusions are considered. The study is based on a generalization of the Bruggeman effective medium theory for small nonspherical particles distributed in shape. The particle shape has a profound effect on the optical threshold, which indicates that the real part of effective dielectric function transits from positive to negative values at this special volume fraction of metal component close to the percolation threshold. The optical threshold is sensitive to the different particle shape. A shape distribution introduced in the Bruggeman effective medium theory is found to give a reasonable description of experimental phenomenon of low- or high-threshold composite." @default.
