• W1995672222 abstract "Abstract The daily course of the flight activity of the migrantes alatae of Phorodon humuli Schrank, studied over a hop‐garden for 15 days by means of regular two‐hour captures into Moericke's dishes and yellow sticky traps at four height levels (0, 1, 4.2, 7.2 m) showed a bimodal periodicity in warm sunny weather. The unimodal flight curves, or curves with a slight and shifted morning peak, are interpreted as a consequence of retarded teneral development of the migrants on the primary sources as a result of low night and morning temperatures. The catches in nets carried by captive balloons over the hop‐garden at the heights of 30 and 100 m showed the same trend: the bimodal flight periodicity was observed in sunny warm weather with ascending convection current, whereas on a cold day with a low night minimal temperature no such periodicity was ascertained. Due to the fact that the bimodal flight periodicity was not masked, in sunny weather, by the local post‐migration flights of older aphids which show a one‐peak flight curve, as stated by Taylor (1965), it is assumed that the population of the winged migrants of the hop aphid over the hop‐garden in the experimental period consisted mostly of young migrants shortly after finishing their initial flight from stone‐fruit trees. Zusammenfassung Zur Tagesperiodizität der Flugaktivität der Migrantes alatae der Hopfenblattlaus, Phorodon humuli Schrk. (Hom., Aphidae) Es wurde die tageszeitliche Flugaktivität der Migrantes von P. humuli in einem Hopfengarten 15 Tage lang mittels 2stündlicher Fänge in Moericke‐Schalen und gelben Klebfallen in 4 Höhenstufen (0, 1, 4.2 und 7.2 m) untersucht. Es ergab sich eine bimodale Periodizität bei warmem sonnigem Wetter. Unimodale Flugkurven oder Kurven mit schwacher und wechselnder morgendlicher Spitze werden als Folge einer verzögerten Entwicklung der Migrantes in Verbindung mit niedriger Nacht‐ und Morgentemperaturen interpretiert. Die Fänge in Netzen, welche 30 und 100 m über dem Hopfengarten an Ballonen hingen, zeigten den gleichen Trend: bimodale Flugperiodizität bei sonnig‐warmem Wetter mit auf‐steigender Konvektionsströmung, während an kalten Tagen mit nächtlich niedrigen Mini‐mum‐Temperaturen diese Periodizität nicht zu beobachten war. Auf Grund der Tatsache, daß die bimodale Flugperiodizität bei sonnigem Wetter nicht durch lokale Postmigrations‐flüge älterer — nur eingipflige Flugkurven aufweisende — Blattläuse (wie sie von Taylor 1965 beobachtet wurden) verschleiert wurde, wird angenommen, daß die Population der geflügelten Migrantes der Hopfenblattlaus im Hopfengarten während der Untersuchungs‐zeit überwiegend aus jungen Migrantes bestand, die kurz zuvor ihren Erstflug von den Steinfruchtbäumen beendet hatten." @default.
