- W1995797893 abstract "In order to calculate potentials for helium-atom diffraction from surfaces it is important to include the hybridization between the helium 1s orbital and the unoccupied states in the metal, since this term is strongly anticorrugating. In this paper we calculate the magnitude of the hybridization energy for helium near a jellium surface. This calculation shows that the hybridization is a large effect, and is sufficient to explain the anomalously small corrugations observed on clean metal surfaces. The calculation of the hybridization energy takes into account the effects of the surface image potential, which provides a large perturbation of the helium 1s orbital." @default.
