This noise constitutes the floor to the total noise produced by the vehicle regardless of the method of propulsion. Several methods of calculating the sound pressure levels of this aerodynamic noise are developed based on the interaction of turbulent boundary layer flows with solid surfaces. These calculations are applied to a model for a high-speed train. Calculated noise levels compare favorably with the levels measured for unpowered vehicles operating at typical high speeds.
