- W1996111416 abstract "A picosecond time-resolved study of the interaction of Br with I2 is presented. The bromine atom is formed by photodissociation of the HBr in the van der Waals dimer HBr·I2 at 220 nm. The resultant molecular products are detected by picosecond REMPI. We see primarily vibrationally excited I2 with only a tiny amount of IBr visible to our REMPI scheme. Results show an interaction beginning on the spin-orbit excited reaction potential surface (Br(2P12)+I2). The electronically excited BrI2 complex internally converts to the one of the two states which correlate to ground state atoms on a time scale of 51 ps. The system then quickly dissociates resulting in vibrationally excited I2 and a ground state bromine atom." @default.
