Es handelt sich um einen Pilz, der ganz typisch opportunistische Infektionen bei schon anderweitig geschwächten Patienten hervorruft. Diese Torulopsis-Mykosen und das Vorkommen von Torulopsis glabrata im menschlichen Organismus überhaupt scheinen im Zunehmen begriffen zu sein. Wenigstens im Bereich der Atmungswege, des Verdauungskanals und der Vagina sowie im Harn ist Torulopsis glabrata – nach finnischem Patientenmaterial beurteilt – ziemlich häufig. Die Untersuchung betraf insgesamt 10 017 Proben aus dem Bereich des Respirations-trakts aus den Jahren 1963–1973. Die durchschnittliche Frequenz von Torulopsis glabrata war in diesem finnischen Material, das in der Hauptsache Lungenkranke enthielt, 6 %. In den verschiedenen Probengruppen wurden folgende Frequenzen von Torulopsis glabrata erhalten: Bronchialsekret 2,4 %, Lungengewebe 1,9 %, Lungensektionsmaterial 8,3 %, Pleuraflüssigkeit 4,3 %, Morgensputum 6,9 % und obere Atmungswege 5,3 %. In den bron-chopulmonalen Proben dürfte Torulopsis glabrata, wie auch andere Mikropilze, großen-teils eine Kontamination aus den oberen Atmungswegen sein. Im ganzen wurden bei der Untersuchung 604 Torulopsis glabrata-Stäimme isoliert. Summary The significance of Torulopsis glabrata as a pathogenic yeast fungus is sometimes considered to be open to question, especially on the basis of animal experiments. Evidently it is typical a microbe that causes opportunistic infections in patients who are debilated for other reasons. There appears to be an increase in torulopsis mycoses as well as in the occurrence of Torulopsis glabrata per se in the human body. In at least the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts, the vaginal area and urine, Torulopsis glabrata is fairly common when considered on the basis of patient series studied in Finland. The presented study was made of 10 017 specimens from the respiratory tract during 1963–1973. The mean incidence of Torulopsis glabrata was 6.0 % in this Finnish series comprising patients chiefly with lung disease. The incidences in the different specimen groups were as follows: bronchial secretion 2.4 %, lung tissue 1.9 %, autopsy specimens of lung tissue 8.3 %, pleural effusion 4.3 %, morning sputum 6.9 %, and upper respiratory tract 5.3 %. The presence of Torulopsis glabrata in the bronchopulmonary specimens probably is due largely to contamination from the upper respiratory tract. A total of 604 strains of Torulopsis glabrata were isolated in this study." @default.
