- W1996178744 abstract "Purpose of the study: Brain perfusion (BP) during cardiopulmonary ressucitation (CPR) relates with the CO generated by thoracic compressions. Regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rSO2) is a non-invasive method for monitoring BP. The goal of this study was to validate rSO2 as a means of monitoring of BP during CPR. Material and methods: Experimental study performed in thirteen Yorkshire pigs. Ventricular fibrillation and a cardiac arrest (CA) was induced. 5 min afterwards CPR with LUCAS® was begun. ECG, IAP (carotid artery), arterial/venous gasometry, Hb, CaO2, CvO2, DO2, VO2, ErO2 (catheter at the gulf of the internal jugular vein), rSO2, CO, and CI (NiCCO) were determined before and after ventricular fibrillation, and during minutes 5, 15, 30 and 45 of RCP. Statistics: Linear regression analysis and r2 was calculated to determine the dependency of rSO2, CO and ErO2. Results: By the end of CPR the CO and rSO2 had diminished an 83% and 88.2%, respectively. 30 minutes after cardiac arrest, rSO2 becomes dependant of the ErO2 (inverse relationship), while ErO2 depends of CO (direct relationship). 45 after cardiac arrest rSO2 also becomes dependant of CO (direct relationship) (Table 1).Table 1Linear regression.r2Basalr2 15 minr2 30 minr2 45 minrSO2/CO0.1790.0210.010.76ErO2/CO0.0210.030.831.0rSO2/ErO20.1250.152−0.97−1.0 Open table in a new tab Conclusions: (1) rSO2 may be used as a non-invasive method of monitoring of the BP during CPR. (2) 30’ after RCP has begun, CO isn’t enough to supply the brain's oxygen requirements, entering the CNS a critical stage of cerebral ischemia and risk of cellular apoptosis." @default.
