- W1996280211 abstract "To investigate whether uterine mock embryo transfers performed at the time of oocyte retrieval have a negative impact on pregnancy rate. Retrospective cohort analysis of women undergoing IVF-ET. A review of our assisted reproductive technology database (2004 to 2006) identified 488 embryo transfers in women aged 37 or younger. The etiologies of infertility were tubal factor (N = 116), endometriosis (N = 67), ovulatory dysfunction (N = 78), male factor (N = 141), uterine factor (N = 16), unknown (n = 46) and multiple factors (N = 25). Subjects were divided into two groups: those who underwent mock transfer on the day of oocyte retrieval (Group I, n = 85), and those who did not have a mock transfer (Group II, n = 403). Mock transfers were performed by attending physicians and fellows under supervision. A soft trial catheter (Rockett Medical, UK) was used for mock transfer, and the embryo transfer was performed with a Wallace soft catheter (UK). Embryo transfers were performed under ultrasound guidance on day 3 (n = 335) or day 5 (n = 153) as clinically indicated. The embryos were released between 1.0–1.5 cm from the uterine fundus. Statistical analysis was performed with multivariate logistic regression model to calculate odds ratio, 95% confidence interval and chi square. There were no differences in age, stimulation protocols, mean number of embryos transferred and luteal support between the two groups. In Group I, 51 subjects had embryo transfer on day 3 and 34 subjects were transferred on day 5. In Group II, 284 subjects had embryo transfer on day 3 and 119 subjects were transferred on day 5. Forty-six pregnancies (54%) occurred in Group I, 28 (55%) from day 3 and 18 (53%) from day 5 transfers. Group 2 had 218 pregnancies (54%), 147 (52%) from day 3 and 71 (60%) from day 5 transfers. There was no difference in clinical pregnancy rate between the 2 groups. In a subgroup analysis, couples with exclusive male factor infertility who had a mock transfer had a significantly higher clinical pregnancy rate than those without mock (56% vs. 34%, P<0.02), further proving that mock transfers are not detrimental to pregnancy. Performance of mock embryo transfer at the time of oocyte retrieval does not impair the clinical pregnancy rate. These data dispel the concern that a mock transfer at the time of oocyte retrieval may disturb endometrial receptivity. Mock embryo transfer can be implemented as a valid teaching tool during fellowship training." @default.
