It was found that the etching solution used to reveal the grain boundaries was dependent on the orientation of the grains being etched, thus suitable care was exercised so as not to bias any measurements. Computer analysis indicated that the grain areas were distributed in an approximately log-normal manner, possessed a homogeneous spatial distribution, and had aspect ratios approaching unity. The grain size data was then used to determine the grain growth exponent for this alloy at temperatures ranging from 1,073K to 1,373K. The grain growth exponent was found to increase as temperature increased, prior to becoming invariant at 1,223K. Data for three temperatures where n was invariant were used to calculate the activation energy for grain growth in this material, which was found to be 340 kJ/mol. This value was found to be close to, but slightly outside, the expected range of values based on known data for diffusion activation energies." @default.
