Firstly, the pristine boron carbide powders which contain free carbon have been synthesized at 350 °C in a steel autoclave. As the pristine boron carbide was refluxed by HClO 4 at 170 °C for 1–2 h, the boron carbide particles with macropores were produced. Similarly, the boron carbide nanocages can also be obtained.
