- W1996491064 abstract "The protective action of the natural d-tocopherols d-β, d-γ and d-δ-tocopherol against the damaging effects of light was studied, and compared with that of d-α-tocopherol. The tests were carried out on hairless mice. The extent of edema formation caused by exposure to UV-light was measured as a parameter for skin damage. The effectiveness of the d-tocopherols was determined by subjecting the UV-edema inhibition values to a special statistical procedure. It was proved that all natural d-tocopherols inhibit skin edema after skin damage. The following activities were determined in comparison to d-α-tocopherol: d-γ-tocopherol 72%, d-β-tocopherol 42%, d-δ-tocopherol 40%. It was possible to exploit the properties of natural homologues as inhibitors of skin damage caused by exposure to UV-light by using them as an auxiliary factor in the treatment of specific skin diseases and photodermatoses. @default.
