In some areas the Al concentration is relatively constant, near 5% Al, associated with a fine eutectic structure. A continuous wide band of AlO is observed adjacent to the air surface of the galvanized layer. This supports the statement that the higher corrosion resistance of Galfan, as compared to normal galvanizing, can be attributed to a surface layer of aluminum oxide. The rare earth La+, and possibly Ce+, were observed in the aluminum oxide layer. No rare earths were detected at the steel/galvanized layer surface." @default.
