- W1997367694 abstract "1. The hexokinases (ATP-hexose-6-phosphotransferase, EC 2.7.1.1) of normal baby hamster kideny cells (BHK 21/C 13) and a polyoma virus-transformed derivative were studied. 2. Treatment of cell homogenates with detergents led to the finding of soluble hexokinase, debris-associated hexokinase and debris-associated latent activity in both cell lines. 3. Hexokinase activity in the normal cells was found to be stimulated by insulin added to growth media containing either glucose, serum or glucose and serum, while the hexokinase activity in the transformed cells was insensitive to the hormone. 4. In the normal cells, insulin leads to a redistribution of bound to soluble activity in the full growth medium, while in medium without glucose, latent activity is transferred to the bound phase. 5. Only slight changes were observed in the intracellular distribution of hexokinase activity in the transformed cells grown in the presence of insulin, the main effect being on latent activity. 6. No differences in the hexokinase isoenzyme patterns or in some of the properties of the enzymes were found for the two cell lines." @default.
