A recent crystal structure of Lumbricus terrestris hemoglobin (LtHb) by Royer and co-workers provides the best three-dimensional picture of the structural hierarchy to a resolution of 5.5 Å. Atomic level models of the tetrameric and dodecameric complexes are derived from homology modeling and molecular mechanics methods. The homology model is based on the Glycera dibranchiata whereas previous models have been based on the β chain of human deoxyhemoglobin, and for the first time, the dodecameric complex is presented in atomic detail." @default.
