A reproducible long-time plasma driven superpermeation was observed at all the flux densities up to 2 × 1017 H cm−2 s−1 at membrane temperatures, Tm, 500–1000°C. The deposition of stainless steel components on the membrane upstream surface resulted in a permeation drop at Tm < 750°C, though the membrane annealing at Tm ⩾750°C restored superpermeation.
