- W1997738830 abstract "Various kinds of chemicals and synthesized and naturally occurring products of animal and plant origin were applied experimentally in the field in an attempt to discover an effective attractant for Musca autumnalis De Geer. The experimental materials were applied on steers and in petri dishes placed on elevated platforms along the edge of a pasture. Actual fly counts were taken from each test site at 15-minute intervals during a 2-hour observation period for each application date. The comparative effectiveness evaluations were determined from these data.Attractants were more effective when applied on the animals than when placed in petri dishes. The materials applied on the steers which proved to be most attractive to face flies were in 1963, SF-50 (gut slime) 25.0% liquid; in 1964, placenta powder, dry concentrate; in 1965, blood hydrolysate, dry concentrate plus an equal volume of dimethyl disulphide, 5.0% liquid. The more effective attractants applied in petri dishes were in 1963, casein hydrolysate 10.0% liquid plus an equal volume of SF-50, 10.0% liquid; in 1964 lymphatic powder, dry concentrate plus an equal volume of whole soluble bovine blood; in 1965 bone phosphate, dry concentrate." @default.
