- W1997949257 abstract "The properties of samarium layers deposited on an Si(100) substrate under ultrahigh vacuum conditions have been investigated. Information about the chemical composition of the interface has been obtained by analysis of X-ray excited Auger and photoelectron spectra during deposition and subsequent annealing of the ultrathin film. During samarium adsorption at room temperature mixing with the substrate begins at above 0.5 monolayer with a significant effect on the Auger electron signals being found 3–5 monolayers of samarium. Annealing experiments showed that the transport reaction of the film is starting just above room temperature and a silicide overlayer of stable stoichiometry, SmSi, is observed in the temperature range 395–800 K. From results with different probing depths, it was concluded that the morphological changes occuring in the Sm/Si system are caused mainly by silicon diffusion." @default.
